NEW: DEFRA announce public consultation into draft guidance to support the private keeping of primates licensing scheme

The licensing of the private keeping of primates will be supported by guidance which will define the conditions that must be met by license holders, and that inspectors must inspect to. The current draft has been commissioned by DEFRA and prepared by the Animal Welfare Consultancy. You can read the current draft guidance proposal here.

DEFRA has launched a public consultation to gather input on the suitability of these proposals and if they will improve welfare, allow adequate management of the licensing scheme, can be inspected against and are proportionate. They are particularly keen to hear from private keepers.

The public consultation can be accessed HERE and is open until the 18th JULY.

If you are a primate keeper then it is important that you submit your views so that they can be taken into consideration.
